Senate Committee Rejects Public Option for Health Overhaul – WSJ.com

The Senate Finance Committee rejected amendments Tuesday that would add a government-run health-insurance plan to the committee’s health-care legislation, but debate over whether to adopt a public plan isn’t expected to end at the committee.

By a 15-8 vote, the committee rejected an amendment sponsored by Sen. Jay Rockefeller D., W.Va., that would create a public health-insurance option. Under Mr. Rockefeller’s amendment, a government-run plan would inherit Medicare’s network of doctors and hospitals and pay them based on Medicare payment rates for its first two years.

All Republicans on the panel voted against Mr. Rockefeller’s amendment, in addition to five Democrats: Senate Finance Chairman Max Baucus of Montana, Bill Nelson of Florida, Kent Conrad of North Dakota, Blanche Lincoln of Arkansas and Thomas Carper of Delaware.

Obama Heading to Copenhagen for Olympic Pitch | NBC Chicago

In the next chapter of the ongoing “paying back the crooked cronies that got me elected” Barry O.’s heading to Denmark to pitch bent Chicago as the next chosen Olympic city.

Problem is, Obama plays more like the great Tony Soprano quote these days, “[he’s] like Midas in reverse. Everything [he] touches turns to sh–.”

And as Glenn Beck so aptly put it, “in the midst of a flailing economy and 2 international wars, President Obama flew to Copenhagen to plead Chicago’s case.” Now THAT’s leadership.

There Are Only Two Choices Left on Iran – WSJ.com, Eliot A. Cohen

An American attack would be more effective, but it would take longer and probably lead to real warfare in the Persian Gulf, disrupting oil supplies and producing global responses. More to the point, it is difficult to believe that the Obama administration has the stomach for war. Its appalling public case of nerves over the war in Afghanistan—a “war of necessity,” as of only a few months ago—is indicative of its true temper. And if President Obama does not have the courage to accept hazards and ugly surprises, and if he cannot bring himself to deploy his rhetorical skills to the mobilization of opinion at home and abroad, he should not start a shooting war, even if the Iranians are already waging one against us.

That leaves living with an Iranian bomb. But this too has enormous hazards. It will engender—it has already quietly engendered—a nuclear arms race in the region. It will embolden the Iranian regime to make much more lethal mischief than it has even now. In a region that respects strength, it will enhance, not diminish, Iranian prestige. And it may yield the first nuclear attack since 1945 some time down the road.

My Way News – Iran conducts third round of missile tests

Good thing Obama just unpromised the missle defense shield to Poland and the Czech Republic. The Obama admisitration is a clear and present danger to American interests everywhere.

TEHRAN, Iran AP – Iran said it successfully completed two days of missile tests that including launching its longest-range missiles on Monday, weapons capable of carrying a warhead and striking Israel, U.S. military bases in the Middle East, and parts of Europe.

The End of ACORN – Megan McArdle

I don’t see how ACORN survives at this point; the IRS is the latest to pile on, severing ties with ACORN, and slapping a tax lien for unpaid payroll taxes on top of that blow. The lawsuit seems like an even worse attempt–less of a Hail-Mary Pass than an own-goal. At best, it keeps this distressing story in the news, more firmly impressing it into peoples’ consciousnesses and making it therefore more difficult for Democrats to quietly let the organization back on the government gravy train at some future date. At worst, the lawsuit opens up ACORN to discovery, during which the defense can plunder their records. ACORN appears to be trying to avoid this fate by suing for intentional infliction of emotional distress rather than defamation (for which truth is an absolute defense). But that just makes it more likely that the case will be removed to federal court and dismissed. When that happens, the public mind will not make fine distinctions about legal doctrine. They’ll just remember that a judge thought ACORN was in the wrong.

Big Government » Blog Archive » Left Employing Sexist Tactics to Discredit Giles, O’Keefe?

Word on the street is that the Left, the “equal pay, pro-women” left is desperately searching for lewd photos of Hannah Giles.

Savor that bit of irony for a moment.

The Left is seeking to employ sexism as a way to take down yet another young woman. A rationale after Ike Turner’s own heart! Leftist ideology replaces “barefoot and pregnant in the kitchen” as the modern-day female prison; step out of line and you will be virtually and emotionally abused by the burdensome patriarchal undercurrent that powers this political rationale. They’re only for choice if that “choice” is the genocide of the female sex; they’re only for female empowerment if it doesn’t disrupt the fragile liberal status quo – and Giles is the most recent example.

Obama’s Swing-State Blues – WSJ.com

Polls show the president’s popularity has dropped to nearly 40% in the state. By August, Mr. McDonnell had so successfully lashed Mr. Deeds to the White House that the Democrat was down by 15 points.

If there is a saving grace for Mr. Deeds—and there may yet be—it is also a teaching moment for Republicans. Mr. McDonnell’s early strength seemed to suggest the GOP had learned its lesson and was determined to stop alienating voters. The Republican, a social conservative, let his record on those questions speak for itself, and instead ran a disciplined campaign focused on bread-and-butter economic concerns. Mr. Deeds kept trying to paint his opponent as too conservative for the state, but most Virginians saw a man offering solutions to their top worries.

Health Reform Is Just Subterfuge; Dream Is Democratic Dictatorship – Investors.com

By now the realization should be taking hold that the Democrats’ health care plan has been exposed as a hoax. And it was the Democrats themselves who discredited and exposed it, but in a very ironic way. Of course, you won’t hear this bombshell news reported by Democrat partisans Katie Couric, Charles Gibson and Brian Williams.

As for the substance, remember the Democrats’ original rationale for their national health care takeover scheme? They wanted all uninsured Americans to be covered, right? Remember?

But now they concede that their mega-upheaval of a plan would still leave about 15 million without medical insurance. Yet they still advocate the plan! Why?
