Intel CEO: U.S. faces looming tech decline | Politics and Law – CNET News

Otellini singled out the political state of affairs in Democrat-dominated Washington, saying: “I think this group does not understand what it takes to create jobs. And I think theyre flummoxed by their experiment in Keynesian economics not working.”

Since an unusually sharp downturn accelerated in late 2008, the Obama administration and its allies in the U.S. Congress have enacted trillions in deficit spending they say will create an economic stimulus — but have not extended the Bush tax cuts and have pushed to levy extensive new health care and carbon regulations on businesses.

“Theyre in a Do loop right now trying to figure out what the answer is,” Otellini said.

As a result, he said, “every business in America has a list of more variables than Ive ever seen in my career.” If variables like capital gains taxes and the R&D tax credit are resolved correctly, jobs will stay here, but if politicians make decisions “the wrong way, people will not invest in the United States. Theyll invest elsewhere.”

Take factories. “I can tell you definitively that it costs $1 billion more per factory for me to build, equip, and operate a semiconductor manufacturing facility in the United States,” Otellini said.

The rub: Ninety percent of that additional cost of a $4 billion factory is not labor but the cost to comply with taxes and regulations that other nations dont impose. Cypress Semiconductor CEO T.J. Rodgers elaborated on this in an interview with CNET, saying the problem is not higher U.S. wages but anti-business laws: “The killer factor in California for a manufacturer to create, say, a thousand blue-collar jobs is a hostile government that doesnt want you there and demonstrates it in thousands of ways.”

Boehner calls for Obama to fire entire economic team – Washington Times

“We’ve tried 19 months of government as community organizer. It hasn’t worked. Our fresh start needs to begin now,” Rep. John A. Boehner, Ohio Republican, told the City Club of Cleveland in a broad speech laying out the economic argument House Republicans will take to voters this November.

He said the president must break with the economic team that, 19 months into his tenure, has failed to lower the unemployment rate — singling out Treasury Secretary Timothy F. Geithner and Lawrence H. Summers, director of the White House National Economic Council.

Mr. Boehner even called on the president to break with his own party and instead promise to block much of Democrats’ agenda — including a global warming bill and support for labor unions that Mr. Obama has backed throughout the first 19 months of his tenure.

Unemployed group blasts Geithner’s handling of economy – The Hill’s On The Money

Sloan noted a September 2009 interview with ABC where Geithner predicted that in 12 months jobs would be easier to find and income growth would accelerate.

“Geithner was delusional then and he’s even worse now,” Sloan said, pointing to comments that were made less than a month ago by Geithner declaring the economy was “on firmer foundation for future growth.”

Sloan called for Geithner to resign his post as the economy appears to be backtracking from previous gains, especially on the job front.

Rep. Issa: Stimulus website is propaganda – The Hills Hillicon Valley

Issa called on the Government Accountability Office GAO to investigate the allegations and determine if the administration violated federal law by using taxpayers dollars for political purposes.Specifically, the report points to websites it claims contain false or misleading information, such as Recovery.gov and HealthReform.gov, as well as to a conference call during which a White House staff member urged artists and entertainers to support President Obamas agenda.Rather than serve as a tool for strong oversight and transparency, "Recovery.gov became a taxpayer-funded tool to promote false and misleading propaganda to support the Democrat-backed stimulus," the report states. "The manifest inaccuracies in the data the White House used to justify its economic policies constitutes the dissemination of false propaganda by the federal government."
