N.J. loses $70B in wealth during five years as residents depart (for lower taxes)
“The wealth is not being replaced,” said John Havens, who directed the study. “It’s above and beyond the general trend that is affecting the rest of the northeast.”
This was not always the case. The study – the first on interstate wealth migration in the country — noted the state actually saw an influx of $98 billion in the five years preceding 2004. The exodus of wealth, then, local experts and economists concluded, was a reaction to a series of changes in the state’s tax structure — including increases in the income, sales, property and “millionaire” taxes.
“This study makes it crystal clear that New Jersey’s tax policies are resulting in a significant decline in the state’s wealth,” said Dennis Bone, chairman of the New Jersey Chamber of Commerce and president of Verizon New Jersey.

Vulnerable Dems seek distance from Obama – baltimoresun.com
Heading into an election season in which Republicans are trying to tie Democrats to Obama’s unpopular policies, Obama’s budget gives his fellow Democrats an unlikely campaign tool — a catalogue of ways to establish their distance from controversial aspects of his administration.
It is a time-tested campaign tactic for politicians to declare their independence of party leaders. But the tactic is particularly important for Democrats this year, because their party dominates Washington, and being an insider is a political liability in an anti-incumbent climate.

UN climate panel shamed by bogus rainforest claim – Times Online
A STARTLING report by the United Nations climate watchdog that global warming might wipe out 40% of the Amazon rainforest was based on an unsubstantiated claim by green campaigners who had little scientific expertise.
This is the third time in as many weeks that serious doubts have been raised over the IPCC’s conclusions on climate change. Two weeks ago, after reports in The Sunday Times, it was forced to retract a warning that climate change was likely to melt the Himalayan glaciers by 2035. That warning was also based on claims in a WWF report.

The Death of Global Warming – Walter Russell Mead’s Blog – The American Interest
The movement died from two causes: bad science and bad politics. After years in which global warming activists had lectured everyone about the overwhelming nature of the scientific evidence, it turned out that the most prestigious agencies in the global warming movement were breaking laws, hiding data, and making inflated, bogus claims resting on, in some cases, no scientific basis at all. This latest story in the London Times is yet another shocker; the IPCC’s claims that the rainforests were going to disappear as a result of global warming are as bogus and fraudulent as its claims that the Himalayan glaciers would melt by 2035. It seems as if a scare story could grab a headline, the IPCC simply didn’t care about whether it was reality-based.

Justice Alito’s Reaction – Readers’ Comments – NYTimes.com
Extremely well written comment on a New York Times article on the Alito-Obama dust-up.
Obama is an intellectual lightweight. He never clerked for a Supreme Court justice. He never published any articles when he was Editor of the Harvard Law Review.
The speed with which Justice Alito caught and responded to President Obama’s error was telling and beautiful to watch.
In the future, I expect the American people will not make the mistake again of electing an empty suit to be our President. Obama has failed to manage unemployment, failed to protect us from domestic terrorist attacks, and failed to move his own agenda – despite massive popularity and a huge electoral majority.
Obama is a lightweight who got elected by an electorate more concerned with identity politics than leadership competence.
