FOXNews.com – Obamas Safe Schools Czar Tied to Lewd Readings for 7th Graders

President Obamas “Safe Schools Czar,” already a target of social conservatives for his past drug abuse and what they say is his promotion of homosexuality in schools, is under fresh attack after it was revealed that the pro-gay group he formerly headed recommends books his critics say are pornographic. The group under fire is the Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network GLSEN, which Kevin Jennings, now the assistant deputy secretary for safe and drug-free schools in the Department of Education, founded and ran from 1990 to 2008.GLSEN says it works to create a welcoming atmosphere for homosexual students in schools, and that effort includes recommending books for students of all ages.

Webb warns Obama on taking action in Copenhagen – Water Cooler – Washington Times

Dear Mr. President:

I would like to express my concern regarding reports that the Administration may believe it has the unilateral power to commit the government of the United States to certain standards that may be agreed upon at the upcoming United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change Conference of Parties 15 in Copenhagen, Denmark. The phrase “politically binding” has been used.

Although details have not been made available, recent statements by Special Envoy on Climate Change Todd Stern indicate that negotiators may be intending to commit the United States to a nationwide emission reduction program. As you well know from your time in the Senate, only specific legislation agreed upon in the Congress, or a treaty ratified by the Senate, could actually create such a commitment on behalf of our country.

I would very much appreciate having this matter clarified in advance of the Copenhagen meetings.

Sincerely,

Jim Webb
United States Senator

Opinion: Searching in Vain for the Obama Magic – SPIEGEL ONLINE – News – International

For each troop movement, Obama had a number to match. US strength in Afghanistan will be tripled relative to the Bush years, a fact that is sure to impress hawks in America. But just 18 months later, just in time for Obama’s re-election campaign, the horror of war is to end and the draw down will begin. The doves of peace will be let free.

The speech continued in that vein. It was as though Obama had taken one of his old campaign speeches and merged it with a text from the library of ex-President George W. Bush. Extremists kill in the name of Islam, he said, before adding that it is one of the “world’s great religions.” He promised that responsibility for the country’s security would soon be transferred to the government of President Hamid Karzai — a government which he said was “corrupt.” The Taliban is dangerous and growing stronger. But “America will have to show our strength in the way that we end wars,” he added.

It was a dizzying combination of surge and withdrawal, of marching to and fro. The fast pace was reminiscent of plays about the French revolution: Troops enter from the right to loud cannon fire and then they exit to the left. And at the end, the dead are left on stage.

AP Turns Heads for Devoting 11 Reporters to Palin Book Fact Check – FOXNews.com

Reviewing books and holding public figures accountable is at the core of good journalism, but the treatment Palins book received appears to be something new for the AP. The organization did not review for accuracy recent books by the late Sen. Ted Kennedy, then-Sen. Joe Biden, either book by Barack Obama released before he was president or autobiographies by Bill or Hillary Clinton. The AP did more traditional news stories on those books.

Obama Will Not Travel to Germany for 20th Anniversary of Fall of Berlin Wall – Political Punch

President Obama will not travel to Germany to mark the 20th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall on November 9.

White House Spokesman Robert Gibbs said today that President Obama’s schedule will not allow for a visit to Germany.

“Obviously, we have a lot to work on here and we have commitments for an upcoming Asia trip,” Gibbs said.

The anniversary festivities are scheduled for November 9, and the president leaves for his ten-day tour of Asia on November 11.

Gibbs added that the White House will soon announce a U.S. delegation to attend the ceremonies in Germany instead.

In 2008, then-Democratic Presidential Candidate Obama delivered a major campaign speech in Berlin, drawing the largest crowds—about 100,000 people—of his campaign. Obama received criticism from conservatives and then-Republican presidential candidate Sen. John McCain for using the speech as a political tool to capitalize on his star-status.

Today, the president is again facing criticism that the city that was an important stop in his campaigning is not a priority during this significant anniversary.

Fall Of The Wall? U.S. Sends Regrets – Investors.com

Today, American leaders travel the world expressing their regrets for our alleged past transgressions, and American exceptionalism is no longer part of our vocabulary. We’re just another one of the gang, sandwiched alphabetically between Uganda and Upper Volta, whose votes cancel ours in an international community to which we pledge our fealty.

On the 20th anniversary of this triumph of freedom, it appears than no American president will be there to celebrate, much less remember, the day that the “evil empire” was consigned to the ash heap of history.

In Iowa, euphoria gives way to doubts about Obama – San Jose Mercury News

One year after winning the election, Obama has seen his pledge to transcend partisanship in Washington give way to the hardened realities of office. A campaign for the history books, filled with a sky-high sense of possibility for Obama not just among legions of loyal Democrats but also among converts from outside the party, has descended to an unfamiliar plateau for a president whose political rise was as rapid as it was charmed.

Interviews with voters across Iowa offer a window into how the president’s standing has leveled off, especially among the independents and Republicans who contributed not just to his

margin of victory in the caucuses here but also to the optimism among his supporters that his election would be a break from standard-issue politics.

McAreavy fears that the president’s health care plan will shortchange her Medicare benefits. And she said that she believes that too many of Obama’s actions are rooted in Democratic politics.

Obama: A Man Apart by Herbert London

Obama: A Man Apart
by  Herbert London

10/28/2009

Albert Camus was expert at describing a man apart, an existential man
The Stranger, who didn’t belong in the society in which he found
himself. He didn’t have emotional roots; in fact, this character was
haunted by shadows — the real and the metaphorical. He is the
quintessential rebel challenging normative standards.

At the risk of drawing literary comparisons, I am persuaded based on
his performance that President Obama is a man apart. He seems to
equate power with arrogance; pride with willfulness and exceptionalism
with dominance. As a consequence, he has changed foreign policy
perceptions. The America he leads is a nation like any other — no
more, no less. In fact, as a Nobel laureate, he is considered by the
Europeans as a man of the world, not merely a citizen of the United
States.

When asked if the United States is exceptional, President Obama said
America is exceptional and England is exceptional and Greece is
exceptional. That the United States is sui generis didn’t cross his
mind. How could it? He is pledged to a scenario in which America opts
out of its traditional role as peace keeper, the balance wheel in
maintaining international equilibrium. The war against terrorists is
over along with the nation’s hegemonic role.

Unfortunately the war fatigue President Obama embodies is not embraced
by our global enemies who see this shift in his policy attitude as a
sign of weakness and retreat. I believe President Obama actually
thinks that unilateral concessions to our real and putative enemies
will result in reciprocal responses. But as his bizarre overtures to
the Olympic Committee demonstrated, gestures directed at
multilateralism and celebrity status do not result in favorable
results. Real power as opposed to soft power still has meaning on the
world stage.

A man with roots would know that wild policy swings of the kind that
we’ve experienced with healthcare, cap and trade and education
proposals cannot possibly fly, with the American people, even with
those who voted for President Obama in the last election. Despite
cultural shifts in the nation, the United States still fashions itself
as a conservative nation. Only a man apart cannot sense that
condition.

My contention is not that the president is devoid of conviction. In
fact, his political tilt is decidedly to the left, the hardcore left.
My assertion is different. I believe this president doesn’t understand
the rhythms, the pulse of the American people. He is not merely
outside the main stream. He doesn’t even recognize it. He is a
basketball player who has been asked to bat.

At first I thought his initial popularity would carry him through to a
second term. But as each day passes and the false, almost
inappropriate, gestures register Americans are beginning to recognize
this man apart. He is our stranger in a land he doesn’t understand.

Americans are not war-like, nor does imperial ambition fill their
soul. They have done almost nothing for which daily apologies are
necessary. Their blood soaks the beaches of Normandy, their graves
litter European towns. And their fortune saved millions from the
plight of destitution. Americans do not appreciate a man so removed
from their history, so out of tune with the American experience, that
he reflexively expresses regret for the very conditions that should
engender pride.

Perhaps this president will learn. But I am not confident that can
happen. His life experience without a father in his home and a mother
seeking adventure abroad is unstable. His closest associates vilified
the nation he now leads. Is it any wonder his wife said she could take
no pride in America till now? The past is to be rejected. Milestones
in history are erased from memory as storage cast aside as
unnecessary.

This is a unique moment in our history. It is certainly the only time
in my life when our national instincts are being reconditioned. From a
nation that was a model to the world, we are now told that superiority
is unbecoming, a hindrance for the emergence of global egalitarianism.

President Obama, as a man apart, may attempt this recasting of
America, but, as I see it, America is not yet ready for his
experimentation and, most likely, never will be.

Right Direction or Wrong Track – Rasmussen Reports™

For the first time in recent years, voters trust Republicans more than Democrats on all 10 key electoral issues regularly tracked by Rasmussen Reports. The GOP holds double-digit advantages on five of them. Republican congressional candidates also remain ahead of Democrats in the latest edition of the Generic Congressional Ballot.

Most voters trust themselves more than either Congress or the president when it comes to the economy, but they have way more confidence in themselves when compared to the news media.
